| Melanie's story reaches international shores!! | 08/07/2009 |
| Unbeknownst to us, Melanie was briefly featured in an article on AfterEllen.com, the largest entertainment site for lesbian/bi women with 900,000 unique users/readers. They are based in the U.S. and owned by MTV Networks, but have a large international readership. As a result of this, AfterEllen.com, Editor-in-Chief, Sarah Warn, has mailed Melanie personally to say that readers are very interested in hearing more about her story and have requested a feature interview with her - both for the benefit of her existing fans, and to introduce her to readers who may not yet be familiar with her music and story. Check out the article that started the international buzz: http://www.afterellen.com/TV/2009/7/rhythm-city?page=0%2C1 |

| Shannon Hope to tour with Melanie | 07/07/2009 |
![]() Shannon Hope has been submerged within the South African alternative pop rock scene for the past decade. With her return to the piano-based vocal illustrations of her earlier writing, as a solo artist she is now positioned somewhere in the middle of two extremes, with a powerful, yet delicately moving debut solo album. Based in Durban, South Africa, her extensive musical journey has seen her grace the premier stages of The Barnyard Theatre, Splashy Fen, Woodstock SA, The White Mountain Folk Festival, and The Metro Theatre in Chicago. Her brief sojourns in America in the early days of her music career earned her the opportunity of recording a five track EP with Chicago’s high profile producer, Bjorn Thorsrud (of Smashing Pumpkins and Zwan fame) in 2004. Five years on, and Hope has reinvented herself with a mature and remarkably honest debut solo release simply titled S T I L L, which is loosely defined as alternative adult-contemporary pop rock. The much-anticipated eleven track studio album, co-produced with Tim Rankin at his Cape Town studio, was created in five intense days of musical madness. Released on 1 April 2009, it delivers the thoughtfully personal and often heart-wrenching sincerity of an artist whose music forces you to feel, with a voice impossible to ignore. |

The saying "The truth shall set you free" rings so true for us "family" people; I am 46 years old but very young @heart and engaged to someone that is not only 23 years younger than me; but is also a woman AND from another race group. But I believe in my heart that she's a soulmate and I won't give her up for anything or anyone. People are adaptable and they need to learn to accept us for how we are; we're all unique creations anyway. Keep at your music, whatever life throws your way and remain true to your heart & passion. You are highly talented and it's great to see that you are so happy and endured a journey that can only lead to growth. All the very best of love and musical harmony to you and your leading lady. |

Someone once said "I am not necessarly gay or different I am merely in love with an amazingly beautiful woman". Wish you luck with the next two interviews on jacaranda. The way you handled this issue, well you can be proud of yourself. I can only imagine that this could not be the easiest thing to do in your life. You never knew for certain how your family, friends and us your fans would react to this news... Maybe a few fans have left your facebook site, but I am certain that if they think properly about everything, they will return... I am proud to be a fan of you since the beginning and straigth as straight can be. I am proud that I supported you the way I did in the beginning even if things got out of hand afterwards. | To All My Wonderful Friends, Fans And Supporters | 26/05/2009 |
| By now some of you have read about it in the O Magazine, some of you have heard it via the grapevine, some of you have always suspected it and then there are others who are still in the dark and have absolutely no idea what I am talking about! For those who don’t know, it was never my intention to keep you in the dark and I would hate for you to find out from another source as I truly value each one of you, so you are going to hear it directly from the horse’s mouth! This message is to officially announce my engagement. The reason that it has been kept under wraps until now is because the announcement was due to be made in the June issue of O Magazine, which is now on the shelves, so you can check that out for the whole story and some pics. I met my fiancé, Angela, just over a year ago, in Jhb. In fact, it was one of my reason’s for relocating! The things you do for love! I realise this may come as a bit of a shock to some of you but I think, and hope, it’s better to hear it straight from me. I’m sure you will acknowledge that it’s not an easy thing to tell people and I know I will receive mixed reactions, but that is something that can’t be helped. I like to believe that you will stand behind me and support me. We are very lucky to have the support of most of our family and friends. It makes everything so much easier for us. I know that many people are not as lucky as we are in that regard. I have always believed in the importance of living your life honestly and with integrity. There are so many people who spend their whole lives searching for their own truth. After many years of struggling with myself, I am finally able to say I've found it, and that is all thanks to a wonderful, supportive partner. I am very proud of who we are and what we have and I know, through all of this, we will continue to grow and learn. As always, I continue to live the music. I still march to my own beat and probably always will. The music will keep coming, so keep watching this space for details and information. For me, that IS what it's all about. I thank you all for your continued support. I’ll end with a quote from one of my own songs, which happens to be all about me and my inner struggle with the need to always be true to myself. “Blue, always it was you, old familiar friend, you hide your face amidst the empty smiles so well. But I recognise your eyes, ancient now, but wiser than the first time that we met” Much love Melanie |

Your music helped me to get out of that void in time. So thank you, thank you for your inspiration. I will continue to be a fan. Congratulations, you make me proud to be who I am. Regards Leanne |

The Samson CL-5 with condenser really brings out tone and subtle nuances, especially for an acoustic performance. I am also priviliged to be test driving a monster cable for my microphone and guitar. | Hexagon Theatre Show | 06/04/2009 |
| What a wonderful evening! After a very rushed trip down to PMB, and a 5 hour rehearsal just before the show, it went off without a hitch and ended with a standing ovation from the audience! Mark, the super-talented keyboardist from Durban, had not even heard the songs before the rehearsal which happened on the day of the show! But, being as talented as he is, the songs sounded amazing and not one mistake was made. Thanks to the lady of a thousand instruments, Ilse-Louise Herholdt, for working so hard on the show and for all your time and patience. With her contribution, we had backing vocals, cello, flute, sax and bass over and above Melanie on guitar and vocals and Mark on keyboard! Melanie is honoured to work with such talent. All three of us thoroughly enjoyed the show and had such fun! There were a lot of laughs, probably due to a serious lack of sleep;) But it was awesome to work with such incredibly talented and yet such humble, down to earth people. This show was what music is all about! We would love to come back to the theatre and do a jazz show for PMB next time. Please feel free to post comments and let us know your thoughts on the show and whether or not you want us back! If anyone has any photos from the night, please feel free to post them on the website! |

I do hear that often about my songs and it used to make me think I should try and write happy songs but, to be honest, without these songs, I wouldn't be the person I am now. They helped me to heal and they are very real to me and, sad as they may be, people seem to relate to them because they are just the honest truth:) I am, however, in a good place in my life now and I have all my songs and experiences to thank for that! Thanks for your comments and I'm glad you enjoyed the show! |

I am sure you must be a lot happier than what your show depicts you as being!!! My wife says you are just singing about your experiences and thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
